August 2020: Covid-19 update - Hall remains closed to most users
The Welsh Government guidance evolves regularly. Until early August 2020, only childcare, health service and certain specific voluntary groups have been allowed to hire community centres, which led to the successful return of Llandogo Early Years in June. The government advice has now evolved to allow community centres to reopen, but with very strict requirements regarding risk assessments, strict cleaning requirements by hirers both before and after hire, and social distancing. This is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all users of these spaces. The trustees of the Hall (the committee) are personally responsible for the safety of everyone using the hall, including if this new guidance is not adhered to, or if there is an outbreak with the Hall at its centre.
At August’s Hall committee meeting it was unanimously decided that the committee are not able to take on this responsibility safely. We cannot guarantee social distancing nor effective cleaning by each group before and after hire, therefore we cannot be compliant with the guidance. This is particularly important given the daily usage of the Hall by Llandogo Early Years. Paying for professional cleaning after every meeting will also be cost-prohibitive and we do not want to pass this cost onto you.
It was therefore decided that the Hall will remain closed to most hirers for the foreseeable future, with a current target date of opening in Jan 2021 depending on the evolution of the situation at that point. We will review this at the committee meeting in early December and keep you up to date.
We hope you understand the position and that you’re not too disappointed by, or surprised with, this decision. We hope to see you all back soon in happier times and are already planning the re-opening party!
